Reddit’s r/Bitcoin culture is always gripping our heartstrings. On Thursday, a user called “u/Bigtony96” reported to have sold their entire Bitcoin (BTC) stash to pay off the mortgage of their parents.

The Redditor reportedly unloaded a total of 6 BTCs accrued over the last three years to close the remaining balance on their parents’ house. They said there was enough money left to pay taxes and maybe purchase a new vehicle.

“Today is the day I’ve been dreaming of for the last few years, and it feels so surreal,” said the person.

In the thread, U/Bigtony96 described their reason for trying to support their parents, whose restaurant company was ruined by government lockdown orders:

“My parents are everything to me. […] They’re in the restaurant business and the pandemic forced them to burn through a large chunk of their savings, and they stress out over finances every single day. My dad always told me one day he’ll retire once the house is paid off, and that day is finally here.”

Although U/Bigtony96 did not state precisely when the BTC was sold, the sale likely happened on Thursday, as indicated by the title of the post: “Only sold to pay off the mortgage of my parents.”
